A Broken Bridge

When I hear the phrase "Broken Bridge", I always connect it to the "Broken Bridge" in Adyar, Chennai. It is a dilapidated pedestrian bridge, located at the mouth of the Adyar river In chennai, India. The bridge was built to facilitate the movement of fishermen from the Santhome Beach to Elliots Beach in Besant Nagar over the mouth of the Adyar river. The bridge spans across the Adyar Estuary bordering the back end of the Theosophical Society. The bridge partly collapsed due to the strong currents of the river & sea during a particular monsoon, and was later never repaired. When you visit the broken bridge in the evenings, there is a tranquility that engulfs you. It is a pleasure to sit & watch the waves in the sea splashing on the shore & hear a lot of birds chirping. You get to see a lot of birds flying away home.

Just like the "Broken Bridge", which bore the brunt of rough weather & never got repaired, there are a few relationships in life that never get repaired because of our ego, anger & hurt. If we had taken time to repair it letting go of our ego & hurt, instead of letting go our relationships, we would not have had bad memories.

We just need to take "that extra effort" to keep a relationship alive. That " extra effort" has to come from both sides. Life  is beautiful, only when two persons who love & care for each other, take time & effort to make a strong bond. When faced with rough situations, the bond between them does not crack,it becomes so strong that nothing can destroy it. Small arguments & fights show that there is life in a relationship. Then there is more understanding & care in the relationship. Sometimes it is lack of communications, that causes the rift. Never let any misunderstanding grow because that leads to a rift & if left without communication, it leads to hurt.

Never take anyone for granted. Don't let your close ones feel that they are just an option & not a priority in your life. " A lovely logic for life: Never try to maintain relations in your life… Just try to maintain life in your relationships". If there is no life in a relationship it dies a natural death. But when ego & hurt comes in between, the relationship is murdered. So always take time& effort to tell them how much you love & care for them.

Well said Chechi. How well you manage to relay the message across to all of us... the importance of a relationship- be it friend, husband, wife, son/daugher, brother/ sister, colleagues.. or for that matter.. any human being we come across & those that leave an imprint in our lives.
